Retention
Customer referrals
Existing customers introducing new ones, tracked to the order that resulted.
A recommendation from someone who has actually bought converts better than any advertising, and costs nothing until it works.
How it works
- A customer refers, and the referral is recorded against the order it produced.
- Subscription referrals are tracked the same way, against the subscription that started.
- Because it is tied to a real order, the reward is paid on something that happened.
Reward both sides
A referral scheme that only rewards the referrer asks somebody to spend their own credibility for your benefit. Giving the new customer something too turns the message from “help me out” into “here is something for you”, which is a far easier thing to send to a friend.
What it does not do
It will not manufacture advocates. Referral schemes amplify goodwill that already exists; they do not create it, and offering money for a recommendation nobody wants to make produces neither referrals nor goodwill.
